Nigeria National Assembly threatens reprisal over xenophobic attacks


Yesterday, at the National Assembly, the Senate and the House of Representatives gave a very strong warning about the attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa. 
They also engaged the government's less than stellar performance in challenging this malfeance
. Hajia Khadidja Bukar Abba-Ibrahim Minister of state for foreign affairs who lead the Federal government delegation spoke to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives committed on foreign affairs.

She said that latest information from the Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa proves that only properties of Nigerians were destroyed with no lives lost. She however added that the attacks of 2014 and 2015 where Nigerian lives were lost was still being investigated to determine the number of lives lost.

The Chairperson of the joint committee Senator Monsurat Sunmonu APC Oyo central Senatorial district was not impressed with the response and blasted the government for not effectively engaging their South African counterparts to curb the menace. She warned that reprisals will come if the attacks continued, specifically saying that South African businesses in Nigeria will bear the brunt of the reprisals.
